Iron County rescuers respond to 2 separate incidents of trappers stuck in snow
IRON COUNTY — Iron County rescue personnel successfully rescued stranded trappers in two separate incidents a few hours apart late Thursday and early Friday.
Lt. Del Schlosser of Iron County Sheriff’s Office said the first incident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday, when dispatch was notified of two individuals who had gotten stuck while checking animal traps in the Upper Bear Valley area, just south of state Route 20.
“They became stuck and called their family. They were able to get out but later ran out of fuel,” Schlosser said. “Deputies responded to the area and were able to take fuel into them and they were able to drive out.”
In an unrelated incident a few hours later, at approximately 1:30 a.m. Friday, another individual who was checking traps in the same general area a few miles away also reported they had gotten stuck in the snow, Schlosser said, adding that the stranded person was able to send a text to family members to tell them they were headed to a nearby cabin.
Iron County Search and Rescue personnel responded to the scene, and with the help of snowmobiles, were able to reach both the cabin and the vehicle. The rescued person and vehicle were able to leave the area at approximately 5 a.m., Schlosser said.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
