Create a positive grieving process; how a funeral or celebration of life service helps the living heal
FEATURE — Dealing with the death of a loved one is a painful and emotional experience for those who are left behind. While death is very much a part of life’s journey, it can still be a very difficult topic to talk about and find peace with it.

Whether a person chooses a burial or cremation as their body’s final disposition, Spilsbury Mortuary funeral director Jody Spilsbury Snow said funeral service or celebration of life planning can provide family and friends the opportunity to receive closure, begin the healing process and come together to remember their deceased family member or friend in a positive light.
Spilsbury Mortuary has been caring for families in Southern Utah for nearly 80 years, assisting them with funeral service planning and walking side by side with those who are grieving. Throughout the decades, the staff at Spilsbury Mortuary has witnessed firsthand the importance a service plays in finding comfort after loss.
As the face of traditional funeral service evolves, at Spilsbury Mortuary, they offer a wide variety of options for planning a service.
“Your choices in funeral ceremonies are as varied and individual as the people whose lives you are honoring,” Snow said. “The Spilsbury staff will assist your family in planning the most meaningful tribute for your loved one. We will assist you in choosing the options that are tailored to the needs of your family and the wishes of your loved ones.”

Spilsbury Mortuary’s community outreach coordinator Connie Zdunich said that holding a service can be particularly important to young children and teenagers who would not otherwise have a dedicated space to express their grief and to say their goodbyes.
“They need to be told it is OK to cry because (their loved one) is gone,” Zdunich said.
Funeral services or celebration of life services can be equally important to close friends, neighbors and co-workers who have spent a lot of time cultivating a relationship with the deceased.
Spilsbury Mortuary provides an in-house comprehensive service in their beautiful chapel. They take great care to provide the best location, facility and service in Southern Utah. That being said, whether a family chooses to hold the service at Spilsbury’s facility, their own church, graveside or a different location, the Spilsbury staff will help loved ones plan and execute the best service for their needs.
