Police investigating 40-yard penis imprinted on football field in Cedar City
ST. GEORGE — The Cedar City Police Department is asking for the public’s help to find the person or group responsible for killing part of the grass on the Canyon View High School football field in Cedar City.
The suspect or suspects dumped what smelled like diesel fuel on a 40-yard area of the grass in the shape of a penis, Cedar City Police Sgt. Jerry Womack said. While the fuel was never lit on fire, it killed the grass. The act of vandalism happened between Thursday afternoon after the school’s football practice and Friday afternoon, when it was discovered and reported.
There are no security cameras in the Canyon View High School football stadium, and police do not yet have any suspects, Womack said.
“The grass doesn’t just grow back,” Womack said. “They’re going to have to either re-sod it or something.”
The cost to repair the damage could cost hundreds of dollars, but based on how much it actually ends up costing, those responsible will likely face a Class A misdemeanor or possibly even a felony vandalism charge, Womack said.
In the meantime, the penis shape on the field has been painted over, and the field is still being used.
Anyone with information about the crime or who could be responsible is asked to call the Cedar City Police Department at 435-586-2956.
