Pine View defensive end Brooks Maile signs to play football for BYU
ST. GEORGE — Brooks Maile, Pine View High School’s standout senior defensive end, has officially committed to play football at Brigham Young University.

The 6-foot-3-inch, 285-pound Maile signed his formal letter of intent at his home on Wednesday, said his mother Nisi Maile. Wednesday was the first day of the early signing period for high school football players graduating in 2019. Brooks Maile had previously verbally committed to BYU after attending a spring camp at the university in June 2017.
“His dad would be so proud, and what a blessing that Kolei was able to witness Brooks verbally committing to BYU,” said Nisi Maile, whose husband, Kolei, an assistant coach at Pine View, died last Christmas at age 46. Brooks, whose childhood nickname is “Buku,” is the oldest of their four children.

Pine View head coach Ray Hosner echoed the sentiments about Brooks Maile’s father in a Facebook post.
“Your dad is looking down smiling on you and will always be by your side!” Hosner wrote.
Hosner also praised the student athlete for his character and abilities off the field.
His ability to overcome obstacles has been tremendous (and) his willingness to serve others has been a testament to the amazing job his parents have done raising such a fine young man.
Brooks Maile, who is the current student body president at Pine View High, will graduate in May 2018. He also is enrolled in some college-level classes through Success Academy, his mother said.
Following Maile’s announcement, BYU Football posted a short video on its YouTube channel.
