Man receives life-threatening injuries after argument leads to car crashing into ravine

ST. GEORGE — An argument between a couple driving south on Interstate 15 caused the car to veer off the road and into a ravine Sunday evening.

The rollover occurred at milepost 42 of I-15 near New Harmony at about 11 p.m. After getting ejected from the Honda Accord, the passenger received life-threatening injuries from the crash after being ejected from the Honda Accord, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Ryan Bauer said. He was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center via ambulance. Police do not know the status of his condition at this time.

“Last we heard, he was in surgery, and that was early (Monday) morning,” Bauer said.

The driver of the car was wearing her seat belt and also received some injuries, Bauer said. She was also transported to the hospital. There were no other cars involved.

Before the crash occurred, the couple was arguing, which caused the driver to become distracted and drift off the road, Bauer said.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement and may not contain the full scope of findings.
