Southern Utah weekend weather: Expect more rain…and what’s that white stuff up there?

ST. GEORGE — According to the National Weather Service, fall is officially in Southern Utah as temperatures have dropped and a cold storm system is looming, possibly bringing snow to higher elevations. In addition, officials have issued a hazardous weather outlook starting today and going into next week for heavy precipitation.

Below are your St. George, Cedar City, Zion National Park and Lake Powell area weekend weather forecasts, including current warnings and advisories.

St. George

Friday

Mostly sunny with a high of 77 and low of 57, with northwest winds of 6 mph.

Saturday 

Mostly cloudy with a high of 73 and low of 53, with east southwest winds of 5 mph. There’s a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning, picking up after noon. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

Sunday

Partly sunny with a high of 67 and low of 50, with north winds of 5-7 mph. There’s a 30 percent chance of showers.

Cedar City

Friday

Partly sunny with a high of 62 and low of 45, with north winds of 6-9 mph. There will be isolated showers and thunderstorms before noon.

Saturday 

Cloudy with a high of 57 and low of 40, with south winds of 5-7 mph. Showers and a thunderstorm are likely after noon, with a chance of precipitation at 70 percent.

Sunday

Mostly cloudy with a high of 51 and low of 38, with north winds of 8-13 mph. Showers and a thunderstorm are likely, with a 60 percent chance of precipitation.

Zion National Park/Springdale

Friday 

Mostly sunny with a high of 66 and low of 46, with west winds of 6-9 mph.

Saturday 

Mostly cloudy with a high of 63 and low of 41, with east southwest winds of 5-8 mph. Showers and a thunderstorm are likely after noon, with a 60 percent chance of precipitation.

Sunday

Mostly cloudy with a high of 56 and low of 39, with north northwest winds of 7-10 mph. There’s a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Lake Powell/Bullfrog Basin/Halls Crossing

Friday

Mostly sunny with a high of 74 and low of 52, with southwest winds of 5-7 mph.

Saturday

Mostly cloudy with a high of 70 and low of 50, with west northwest winds of 5 mph. There’s a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon.

Sunday

Cloudy with a high of 61 and low of 48, with north winds of 3-6 mph. Showers and a thunderstorm are likely after noon, with a 70 percent chance of precipitation.

Weather warnings and advisories

A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for the western two thirds for the possibility of scattered showers, thunderstorms and snow showers Friday, while a colder storm system will bring widespread precipitation Saturday and Sunday, including snow levels as low as 7,000 feet.

Heavy precipitation can pose a threat to burn scars, mid-slopes and lower elevations. Southern and eastern Utah could see thunderstorms capable of moderate to heavy precipitation, bringing a threat of flash flooding.
