Southern Utah weekend weather: Warmer temps to cause accelerated snowmelt, dangerous waterways

ST. GEORGE — According to the National Weather Service, this weekend’s weather includes warm temperatures with a slight chance of showers in most of the forecast area on Friday. An hazardous weather outlook is also advising of accelerated snowmelt.

St. George

Friday

Increasing clouds with a high if 86 and low of 61, with east winds of 3-5 mph becoming west-southwest in the evening. There’s a 20 percent chance of isolated showers after noon.

Saturday

Sunny with a high of 89 and low of 61, with northeast winds of 6 mph becoming south in the afternoon.

Sunday

Sunny with a high of 89 and low of 61, with east winds of 5 mph becoming south in the afternoon.

Cedar City

Friday

Partly sunny with a high of 72 and low of 49, with south-southeast winds of 5-8 mph. There’s 30 percent chance of isolated showers, then scattered showers and thunderstorms after noon.

Saturday 

Sunny with a high of 79 and low of 45, with east-southeast winds of 5-10 mph becoming south in the afternoon.

Sunday 

Sunny with a high of 76 and low of 49, with south-southeast winds of 10 mph.

Zion National Park/Springdale

Friday

Mostly sunny with a high of 73 and low of 45, with northeast winds of 7-9 mph becoming south in the afternoon. There’s a 20 percent chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms after noon.

Saturday

Sunny with a high of 76 and low of 44, with northeast winds of 8-14 mph becoming south in the afternoon.

Sunday 

Sunny with a high of 76 and low of 44, with east winds of 10-13 mph becoming south in the afternoon.

Lake Powell/Bullfrog Basin/Halls Crossing

Friday

Sunny with a high of 84 and low of 56, with east winds of 5-9 mph.

Saturday 

Sunny with a high of 88 and low of 56, with northeast winds of 5-10 mph becoming south in the afternoon.

Sunday 

Sunny with a high of 88 and low of 57, with south-southeast winds of 6-10 mph.

Weather warnings and advisories

There are no active advisories for the outlook areas; however a hazardous weather outlook in place for the areas of Utah’s Dixie, Zion National Park, Glen Canyon Recreation Area and Lake Powell is forecasting additional showers and thunderstorms for the outlook area Friday. There will be the threat of locally gusty winds and lightning.

In addition, a warming trend starting Saturday and continuing into next week is expected to accelerate snowmelt at high elevation. Waterways remain running high, cold and swift. Exercise caution near waterways, and keep a close eye on children and pets.
